The Secret StoryPreface - Encounter  Houses smoldered as the fire moved on through the night. I called out for somebody, anybody, hoping I wasn’t the only survivor. Suddenly, a sharp pain erupted in my back, and I fell to the ground, surprised and afraid. A tall, cloaked figure appeared above me, staring with cold, red eyes. “Who are you?” I managed to choke out; I was growing cold. The apathetic eyes continued to stare, and I blacked out.   
I watched the whole exchange, fighting my will to attack and kill the adult human male. He suddenly disappeared, leaving her to die. I cautiously went to the girl’s side, watching out The Secret Story

 I had woken up from a peaceful slumber, only to find a folded piece of paper with a note on it. Edward had an early morning appointment, which made me strangely disappointed. It was warm in the room when I awoke, the sun made everything feel more alive, but I also had extra sheets covering me. No doubt from Edward taking them from my bed. I smiled at the new memories he’d given me.
